Color

When I am traveling, I like to relax. I am on vacation and I don't always think about the pictures that I am taking. You would think that my wife was always on these nice vacations without me since I am never in any of the images. (Part of the no thinking process)

I just don't think about images the same way that I do when I am working for a client. I like to be inspired and react to what's in front of me. I don't pre-determine what a particular image is going to look like. I just react. Some times there is no subject for the picture. This is just an example of color, nothing less and definitely nothing more. Just something that I saw that I liked...

Still cold but....

at least by going underground you can avoid some of the weather that is overhead. This image was taken in Washington, DC on the rare occasion when no one else was on the platform. I have been told that this is very rare occurrence.

Cold Weather

When the weather gets below 20 degrees, I start thinking about a change in lattitude and going to a nice
hotel.

A place where you can walk on the beach or play in the pool or ocean.

It's always nice to dream in the winter....

Happy Holidays

Just thought that I would wish everyone a Season Greetings. I am heading off to spend some time with family in TN and won't have access to the net. So from Piglet and Pooh. Happy Holidays!!!

Pinholed Pier

Part of the fun of photography is never knowing what you are going to get. I remember when I developed my first B&W print. Standing over the developer and watching the image come to life was truly amazing.

Since I make portraits for a living, I find that I don't have the luxury to be in awe of what comes out. I need to make sure that whatever I produce my clients will like, if not love. That's why I have turned to making pinhole images. This process of making an image dates back to the turn of the 19th century. There is no lens on the camera; there is no shutter just a simple piece of metal with a hole.

You never know what you are going to get and it is always a rush to run to the lab to find out if you made anything that is aesthetically pleasing. This summer with the thanks of a neighbor, I made a 4 x 5 camera. This image was made with that camera on Fuji Velvia film. This camera has brought back some of the child's play that I did in the darkroom so many years ago.

Another Happy Client

Here is another image from one of my clients.

Into the past

Again, it appears that I have been woefully neglectful on adding posts to this site. In the portrait business, the fall is the busiest time of the year and thankfully I have been busy. I thought that I would share a photo that I did for one of my clients.

I am learning more and more that clients enjoy some of my more creative endeavors that I do for them. Everyone gets tired of the same school photo of their children year after year. The challenge is coming up with new ideas as I have new clients. I am sure that I will keep learning and growing, while expanding my business.

New Post, Old Image

It's been a while since I posted any new images. Business has been good but personal work has suffered. Here is an image that I pulled from the archives of the Tybee Island Lighthouse.

Crisp Morning Air

The best light of the day occurs at Dawn but it is hard to pull yourself out of bed, bundle up and go outside to take pictures. There are times in the past that this early morning pursuit results in little to no rewards (not that I expect to get rewarded for falling out of bed at O’dark-thirty).

Every once in a while something magically happens. You find just the right tree at the edge of the right lake, just as the sun peaks over the water. As the shutter clicks you can relax and remember that it is all worth it.

Bridge less traveled

I knew as soon as I saw it that there was an image waiting for me but I did not know how to get to it. So I crossed once and then again. Crossing half way, I watched from the middle of the bridge as water passed beneath me. The trickling sound of the water just seemed to be taunting me.

After crossing for the last time and I realized that I was limited to the path which lay before me. Once I left the path, the image appeared more clearly defined but still not quite what I had in mind. Looks like a place that I will have to go back to until I get it right.
