Part of the fun of photography is never knowing what you are going to get. I remember when I developed my first B&W print. Standing over the developer and watching the image come to life was truly amazing.

Since I make portraits for a living, I find that I don't have the luxury to be in awe of what comes out. I need to make sure that whatever I produce my clients will like, if not love. That's why I have turned to making pinhole images. This process of making an image dates back to the turn of the 19th century. There is no lens on the camera; there is no shutter just a simple piece of metal with a hole.

You never know what you are going to get and it is always a rush to run to the lab to find out if you made anything that is aesthetically pleasing. This summer with the thanks of a neighbor, I made a 4 x 5 camera. This image was made with that camera on Fuji Velvia film. This camera has brought back some of the child's play that I did in the darkroom so many years ago.
